Blueberry Festival menu items by Chef Paula McCarthy

Paula McCarthy, chef de cuisine at Amici Trattoria in Shrewsbury, has created a "Blueberry Festival" (Sagra di Mirtillo) menu that will be offered July 19-21.

McCarthy's specialty items feature blueberries picked by 91-year-old Edward Podles of North Uxbridge, father-in-law of Kari Lunden, an owner of Amici Trattoria.

"This is the third year that Eddie brings us local berries," said McCarthy. "He is a wonderful man, and we all love him."

Podles is a "regular" at Sunburst Blueberry Farm, 44 Rawson St., Uxbridge, according to his son, Chris Podles of Douglas. He said his father picked more than 140 pounds of berries last year. "I think he held the farm's record for the most berries picked," said the younger Podles.
